Mendon Road in between Hunts Bridge Road and Monticello and a 2nd area of Lindsay Acres. Damage assessment was conducted by the fire department and public works cleared the impacted roads. Damage included, trees down and some damage to homes. There were no injuries reported. The weather certainly has been different and challenging this summer as this storm came in very quickly and the Tornado Warning was immediate with no watch period. I would like to encourage everyone to sign up for Code Red Emergency Notifications which are free and can be found on our town website,  nattleboro.com. Code Red will send out emergency notifications for weather alerts once you set up your account. We are approaching the peak of hurricane season. Now is the time to prepare, have a plan and monitor weather forecasts.

We have received numerous reports this week stating that a Sergeant within our department is calling civilians claiming they have failed to report to court and must pay money to prevent an arrest. This is a SCAM. The BCSO will NEVER call you telling you there is a warrant for your arrest and we will NEVER request payment over the phone. If you get a call like this there are a few things you can do to protect yourself if you think a call is fraudulent: Get as many details as possible. Ask for the caller's name, phone number and a supervisor's name. Also ask for the case number they are referring to and the department they are calling from. Google search the given phone number and case number to check for legitimacy. No matter what, NEVER share banking or personal information over the phone with an unknown caller. Please share this with family and friends who may not have social media- these types of scams often prey on our older family members.

'Georgie Porgie' performs on North TV
"NORTH ATTLEBORO - Local legend George Leonard is the guest on a special edition of North TV's “Inside Look” premiering on North TV's Community Channel.

Better known by most as “Georgie Porgie,” Leonard was told by Attleboro High School Principal Joe Joyce back in the mid-sixties to either cut his hair or not to return to school.

Leonard opted for the latter in a case that made its way all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

He discussed that story and many others before performing a new song that is dear to his heart, “South Attleboro.”

Click this video to stream his performance.

The entire interview with Leonard can be seen on North TV’s Community Channel: Comcast channel 15 and Verizon channel 24 in North Attleboro and Comcast channel 11 in Plainville.

Attleboro and North Attleboro are looking into teaming up on some ventures, including a joint fireworks display, and possibly relocating the local Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Attleboro Mayor Cathleen DeSimone and North Attleboro Town Manager Michael Borg recently met to discuss issues those and other issues affecting both communities.
Among the ideas raised is relocating the local RMV back to North Attleboro, and co-hosting an annual fireworks display.
"Our water is safer than it has ever been and due to changing state and federal regulations, along with the majority of well-based communities in MA and the country, needs pfas remediation. We were an early adopter to remediate the water. Out of the 4 water inflow locations, Adamsdale well was already updated for $4.86M, McKeon location is now underway at a bid of $5.8M and will take 12-14 months to complete. Hillman and Whiting locations meet current water standards. It is anticipated the federal standard will change and these two locations will need to be updated, which I am pushing for plans to address before it becomes a new regulation. It is a nuanced situation and I do not pretend to know all the details. For more information, contact the DPW directly, who are doing an amazing job with the resources they have."

"McCracken said residents leaving trash inside and near their houses was a significant factor in the type of rat infestations found inside of homes. With the introduction of trash bins from Waste Management and a widespread effort by the Health Department to rid rats from houses, McCracken said there has been marginal improvement. While cases involving rats inside a home have dropped, calls regarding rodents are still frequent this summer...."

Mark Gould, North Attleborough Council Member, commented, "The plastic bins have only been in place for a couple weeks. I'm no scientist, but of course keeping trash in plastic bins rather than tear-through orange bags will help with the rat issue."

It's for residents participating in the City's trash program. This event will be held at 29 Pond St North from 9am-1pm. Here's a full list of acceptable items. Further questions? Call (508) 223-2222 Ext. 3245 or 3253.
